The American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology is a peer-reviewed monthly medical journal and an official publication of the American Thoracic Society. It publishes articles using cellular, biochemical, developmental, genetic, immunologic, and molecular approaches to understand structure and function of the respiratory system under physiologic and pathophysiologic conditions.
The American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology was established in July 1989. It was developed to address the shift in modern pulmonary science to lung cell and molecular biology. The founding editors were Jerome S. Brody, Robert M. Senior, and Mary C. Williams. John A. Mcdonald served as editor from 1993 to 1998. The current editor is Kenneth B. Adler (Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina).
The journal is abstracted and indexed in the Index Medicus, Current Contents/Life Sciences, Current Contents/Critical Care Medicine, MEDLARS, MEDLINE, and Cambridge Scientific Abstracts. According to the 2010 Journal Citation Reports, the journal's impact factor is 4.426.
